The Fruition

Remembering what the Jubilee represents:

The setting in motion of God’s Purposes. It sets the stage and inaugurates the course. It sets in motion the train of events that must take place in the coming period: The Time until the next Jubilee.

This means that what took place in the Jubilee of 1867 would set in motion a chain of events, a train of prophetic purposes that with the passage of time would become increasingly evident – the fruition of the seeds.

Starting with the stranger:

The ancient prophecy foretold the very words he would speak.

He had to bear witness.

Mark Twain’s destiny was to bear witness to the world.

How this happened;

While his journey was going on he would send reports back to America which would be published in newspapers throughout the land.

Shortly after his journey he was approached by a publisher to convert the reports from his journey into a book.

The book was released in 1869. It was called The Innocents Abroad

A fulfillment of the ancient prophecy, it became a best seller.

Because of that book the witness would go forth to the nation, to the world and not only to Twain’s generation, but to the generations to follow. Of all the books that Twain had published (over 30), this is the one that sold the most during his lifetime.

It was this book that would establish Twain as an author and propel him to international fame.

Since Twain is known as “The Father of American Literature”, it could be said that American literature came into being as a result of the ancient prophecy.

The Man with the Measuring Line” – Charles Warren

Would be called “The Father of Jerusalem Archaeology”

He would lay the foundation for the uncovering of ancient Jerusalem.

With each uncovering the connection between the Jewish people and the land would be revived, restored and renewed.

His measuring and mapping of Jerusalem was so successful that it would open the door for a greater mission:

The next decade would see the mapping out of the entire land.

It would cover the area from Dan to Beersheba.

These are the same borders given to the land of Israel in the Bible.

And again: With every discovery the connection between the Jewish People and the land would be further restored and strengthened.

All of this would be building momentum for the events of the next century.

Returning to the vision of Zechariah

The angel was there not only to measure Jerusalem, but also to give a prophetic word about the restoration of Jerusalem.

Remember the Scripture:

Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man with a measuring line in his hand.

So I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see how wide it is and how long it is.”

And behold, the angel who was speaking with me was going out, and another angel was coming

and said to him, “Run, speak to that young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the multitude of men and cattle within it.

Notice how the Scripture speaks about the returning of the Jewish people and their prosperity. (shown by the abundance of cattle, one of the signs of wealth in that time and place, not unlike some of our cattle ranches today)

A look at Warren’s life after this:

He returned to England and authored a book entitled Land of Promise

It was not only a visionary book, but offered a specific plan on how this vision could be made a reality.

This is all the more shocking when we remember the state of the land at the time:

“a barren, grassless desolation”

Some of what his book contained:

The idea that the debt of the Ottoman Empire could be used to bring about the return of the Jewish people to the land.

He envisioned the Jewish people learning again how to farm the land

He believed that the land could be watered and that the planting of trees would change the ecosystem.

He wrote that the deserts could be made to blossom.

He foresaw the return of the Jewish People to the land

He envisioned with their return of the people, the birth of a nation: Israel resurrected from the dead, a Jewish state coming into being.

He also saw the great powers of Europe involved in this resurrection.

He even believed that the United States would be the best guarantor of Israel’s freedom.
